I do most of my tv watching on dvds.  I'm into immersion television.  But I'm watching American Idol this year with my kids and I must say, What A Blast!
Here's my critique of last night's competition:

Mandisa
  This gal can sing.  Last night she looked beautiful, too.  She won't win because of her size, and the competition is so fierce this year, looks will count in the end.  I don't know when she'll be booted, but she's got a career in entertainment ahead of her.

Bucky
  If I saw him at the 400 Club, I'd say "I wish I were watching Roger Cline!"  Bucky belongs in a barband, not on AI. 

Paris
  I don't think she'll win.  I do think she'll win a tony award before she's 25.

Chris
  I'm a big fan of the late, great Johnny Cash.  I don't think the Man in Black rolled over in his grave at the sound of this unrecognisable rendition of his classic hit; I think he stood up and cheered. If they put out a cd of just Chris's performances in this competition, I'd buy it.  Every week, Chris shows America the difference between good and GREAT.

Kathryn
  Any other year, she'd be a shoo in.  And Brian Piccolo would've been a star if he hadn't been playing behind Gale Sayers.

Taylor
  I've always been a sucker for the Whiskey tenors.  I never miss Delbert McClinton when he comes to town.  Taylor is always fun to watch, he's a ball of charisma!  He's got a career performing in front of him, but I don't think he'll wash as a recording artist.  The fun is in the performance, not just the voice.

Lisa
  If she had waited a year or two, she'd probably be unbeatable.  She is just 16 and she is very good.  She's just not the best of this crowd.

Kevin
  Send Radar O'Reilly home.  He sings well enough to play the lead in his high school musical, but  I find him annoying.  Josie hates his guts.

Elliot
  Best voice in the bunch and clearly knows how to use it.  His look has improved immeasurably from the chin strap days, but he hasn't got the raw materials to beat Chris or Kathryn in the end.  Doesn't matter; on a cd who cares if he's ugly? I'll buy it.

Ace
  I hate everything about this guy.  He hasn't got a voice and I've never liked pretty boys.  Well, not since Davy Jones anyway and this guy ain't no Davy.  Plus, you just know he spends way too much time practicing his 'piercing gaze' in the mirror and his 'romantic' moves are heavy handed and unoriginal.  someday his hair will fall out, and then who will love him?
Actually, I probably will.  I've always had a thing for baldies.
baldies are hot.
