How do you spell "travesty"?

So I slept on it.  I thought a little perspective would help but it didn't.  I still have the same cold hard lump in my gut where the warm happiness of watching Chris rock on Idol used to be.

This may be the first time in history all of the women in the Hubbell clan have agreed on anything.  From my sister in law Kathy who swore in front of her kids for the first time, to our daughters in college, one of whom is too grief stricken to study for finals, to those still in elementary school, who have slammed doors and vowed never to watch Idol again, whether we're rockers or country fans, parrotheads and Bublephiles, the phone lines and email circuits have been ablaze with our collected and unified screams of outrage.  Every last one of us is under Chris's spell and now we've lost him.

How did this happen?

I've watched the video of Chis doing Suspicious Minds four times, now.  It's the hottest thing I've seen on tv since Mulder and Krycek got thrown into a russian prison cell....

And it's not only the girls!  Finny, my rock n roll nephew has declared Idol Dead to Him Now.  My brother Bill, who loves all music, has sent out an email so outraged it has spittle on it.  He says of Taylor that he "...walks a fine line between fun to watch and a tard."  I realised that that's exactly what Simon has been trying to say for weeks.

My Mom always used to say that politics belongs to those who show up.  Were we all too complacent?  Did we just assume everytime we watched him that it was so obvious that Chris was soooo gooood....uh.....mmmmmm....where was I?  Oh, yes.  It was obvious that Chris is head and shoulders above everyone else that there was just no way in hell he'd get sent home?

All I can come up with is that the potent combo of Chris doing Elvis left too many females in America too limp, sated, warm and happy to pick up a phone and vote.

Afterglow killed American Idol.
