Watched "Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are Dead" with Zack last night.  He wanted to see it after being shown a few minutes of it in English class.

It's "Hamlet" from the point of view of two periferal characters who can't understand why they don't remember anything before this morning and aren't sure which of them is Rosencrantz and who is Gildenstern.  They spend the entire movie trying to figure out what's going on but they never learn any more than what's in the play.

The script is clever and funny. The idea is that once a character is created, he takes on a life of his own, regardless of how expedient his existance may be.  Turns out these guys are fascinating characters and the performances of Gary Oldman, Tim Roth and Richard Dreyfus are excellent.
