Watching the AI Finale on Wednesday I was struck by how good the contestants were compared to the recording stars they sang with.  American Idol has definitely tapped the deep end of the talent pool.  Paris  was not at all over her head singing with Al Jareau, and most of the contestants sounded better than their idols.  Chris blew away the lead singer of Live, Elliot (when he got a word in edgewise) has a much better voice than Mary J. Blige and Toni Braxton couldn't carry Taylor's mic.

I'm trying to repress the memory of Kat and Meat.

I did love the bit where the Clay Aiken wannabe got to meet the season 2 runner up, but what struck me most was that Clay wouldn't have made the top six this year.  I doubt if he would've outlasted Bucky.

Then Prince drew a thick purple line separating the stars from the superstar.  Wow.  Who'da ever guessed we'd see Prince on American Idol??

It'll be fun to see what happens next to this crop.
