My friend Kent owns a pizza place called Frankie's in a suburb celebrating heat stroke this weekend.  Lots of the suburbs are having their annual Heat Frustration Days now.  Anyway, I was told that Kent's pizza eating contest was going to be on the news tonight.

That's the only reason I watched.

I hate watching the news.

I don't hate the news as much as I hate the news programs.  For instance, tonight we got two minutes of the BWCA forest fires with no mention at all of the environmental policies that make such massive catastrophes inevitable.  Then we got four minutes of the Israeli/Lebanon conflict, from the perspective of folks here in town who have family in both countries.  Not one word on what's going on or why.  Certainly no acknowledgement that it's not "Lebanon" but "Hezbollah" who's attacking Israel.  ("Lebanon" is apparently like the family who's being held hostage by the sniper shooting at the neighbors from their upstairs windows.   I know that this is the sort of thing the national news is supposed to cover, but they don't do it any better.

Then we got ten minutes on why people say "cheese" when they get their pictures taken.

Oh Yay!  There's Frankie's pizza!

There was some woman correspondent on a minute ago who looked like she had shaved off her eyebrows and replaced them with thin pieces of gray yarn.  It's not a good look.

Now we're being told about giant ants dipped in chocolate.

Gawd, even I wouldn't eat that.

But it's the news.
