Josie turns 11 tomorrow.  I can hardly believe it.

I took her shopping today because she's outgrown all her clothes.  I think she's four inches taller than she was a year ago.  Jay bought her a bike for her birthday so technically non of these were presents; I'm her mom.  I'm supposed to buy all her clothes.

She wanted crocs, so we got some.  She was torn between bright green and periwinkle blue.  Green won out.  Then to Target, where we attacked the clearance racks.  I bought her some pants and she bought herself three things off a rack where everything was under 2 bucks. It's all pretty cute, too.  she asked me if I would wrap it all up for her, even what she paid for, because it's just more fun that way.  Then she bought some little things for two cousins who just had birthdays and Gus, cause he broke his arm.

Finally, to the fabric store.  I'd just gotten the Needlepoint piece I'd designed for her back from blocking and it looks great.  She wanted to help pick out what the finished purse would be made of.  The needlepoint  is a Harry Potter design I made to her specifications.  It has a border of red and gold, the colors of Gryffindor, Harry's house at Hogwarts.  We chose a dark red canvas for the purse and a glittery gold for the lining.  It's gonna look great.

I was standing at the cutting table waiting my turn when Josie asked if she could go look at buttons.  When she was gone, the cutting Lady complimented me on how pretty, polite and soft spoken Josie was.

"You're pretty proud of her, aren't you?" she asked, smiling.

"Yes, I am." I laughed.  ( for some reason it never occurs to me to just say thank you. )

"It shows.  You should be.  You wouldn't believe some of the spoiled brats we see in here."

Yeah, I would.  I'd just been in Target where the girls department is selling  t-shirts that have printed on them:

                            I want it
                            You buy it.
                            Any more questions?

Somebody, somewhere, actually bought that dam thing for their daughter.  I hope I never see a little girl wearing that, as I'd be hard pressed not to turn her over my knee and spank her on general principal.  Or maybe just punch out her Mom.

Josie was very excited about our purchases and best of all, we were done in under 90 minutes.  she gets bored of shopping almost as fast as I do.
