between granite and a hard place

It seems I must destroy my house in order to make it prettier.

Two minutes ago, Zack and I battled the hot water which was spraying all over the kitchen.  The nice fella who was here this morning explaining why I couldn't have a garbage disposal anymore, turned off the water when he took out the sink, but the hot water sneaked back on.

I don't know how!

All I know, is the hot water made a surprise attack on my undefended kitchen at approximately 1:25 this afternoon.  And I have no idea how to turn the hot water off in my house.  In the last five years, we've added two bathrooms, a hot water heater and a new water meter to the house, the upshot of all this being that there are more vavles and handles on copper pipes in my basement than you can shake a stick at.  I don't remember which one turns off what.  I don't think I actually turned anything down there, I think Zack used his superior strength to crank off the valve under the sink which probably isn't the highest quality in town.

I'm just worried that the water will spring another attack on us in the middle of the night and we'll wake tomorrow to a ruined basement.  That would suck.

In the midst of all this, the granite guys showed up.  I mopped up the floor (there wasn't that much water, we got most of it in a bucket) so I didn't have to worry about men carrying large slabs of stone slipping in my kitchen.

Okay theres' no water straining at the top of that pipe any more.

And I don't care: they just laid the island slab on top and IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL I WANT TO LICK IT!!

It's way better than a stupid old garbage disposal.
