Oh, well

Jay brought home a ton of fresh walleye from his jaunt up north.  It's in the fridge, waiting for the grill.  It was rainy this morning but the sun's out now and it's shaping up to be a gorgeous day.  So I called my folks to invite them over for the fish fry this evening.

Our new granite counter tops are being installed today!

The fella has already been here this morning to do the tear out, so right now my stove is in the tv room and I have no sink, faucet or counters.

First bit of bad news:  Our new undermount sink will hang two inches lower than our old shallow sink.  I didn't think this would be a problem because I don't know about things like plumbing and garbage disposals and gravity, which apparently is a problem in my 1920's style kitchen.

It seems that the new sink will be so deep that when they rehook up the garbage disposal it will be lower than the outlet pipe, and since water doesn't run uphill that means the disposal won't work and will always be full of water.  To correct this problem would involve ripping out the ceiling of the basement we refinished one year ago and probably the wall of the porch as well to bring all the plumbing up to code.

Or we could just skip the damn disposal.

It seemed like a tough problem until I thought of it this way:  Would I spend several thousand dollars on a garbage disposal??

It's not that tough a problem.

Second bit of bad news: no one told me that an undermount sink requires twelve hours to set before use.  This means that for our fish fry tonight, although we will have beautiful new granite counters, we will have no functioning sink.

Oh well.
