T-bird took wing

On Saturday, Tyler left.
He's left before, but this time is different.
This time he's gone off to Texas for grad school.
He moved out of here during his first year of college. He was playing for his dad and living in the same house as his coach was a problem. His grandparents asked him to house sit while they went to Florida for a month and he never came back.
After he got his AA degree from MCTC, he went to a four year school in Wisconsin. He was out and gone but less than an hour away. I went to all his home games. When he was finished playing, he moved back to town and finished his degree but he didn't move back in. He couldn't. We had turned his bedroom into an office/home theater.
He didn't want to come home, anyway. We're way too messy for him to live with.
He graduated in May and now he's off to grad school in a completely different part of the country and this time it feels like he'll only come back to visit.
He asked me to make him a blueberry coffecake before he left. That's traditional for the first day of school. After he'd eaten it we were in the driveway and I asked him if he had an atlas.
"Nope!" he laughed.
"Do you want one?" I have one in the car I could give him.
"Mom," he answered, "If I can't find Texas, I don't belong there."
He found it.
