Green Wave

I'm sick to death of Hurricane Katrina and her victims. Yeah, I know; worst natural disaster to ever hit the states in the history of weather, blah blah blah. Well, guess what, people? I'M OVER IT.
We're ready to blame ourselves for the terrorist's hatred, we're ready to take the blame for climate change, why the heck can't we just admit that it was kind of stupid to have built a city below sea level, on a coast that is routinely battered by hurricanes?
"Let's build down here!"
"What about all that water?"
"No problem! We'll build a wall!"
"A wall? A wall between us and the Mississippi River?"
"Yeah, why not?"
"A wall to keep out the Gulf of Mexico?"
"Yeah..."
"Will it be a big wall?"
"What are you, a moron? Of course it'll be a big wall!"
"Okay!"
Seems pretty obvious in retrospect, doesn't it?
There's some ad on the radio, for what I can't remember. What caught my ear was some woman's voice saying in that syrupy, soothing, therapeutic voice: "The hurricanes have passed but the anxiety lingers" or something to that affect.
What crap! The hurricanes haven't passed.
There's always a hurricane bearing down on the coast.
There always has been and there always will be.*
Hurricane Katrina was not the worst hurricane to hit the states. Hurricanes Hugo and Andrew were both bigger storms. They were catagory five storms and Katrina was 'only' a catagory three storm by the time it made landfall. If Katrina had been as fierce a storm as those two, we'd be refering to New Orleans as New Atlantis.
Hurricane Camille killed a lot more people. So how do we define "worst" these days? Hurricane Katrina was a disaster all right, but it was an engineering disaster, not a natural one.
All I'm saying is, if you can't stand the Hurricane, get off the coast.
Yesterday, I put my daughter on a plane headed straight towards tropical storm Ernesto, so she can finish out her college career at Tulane.
Go Green Wave!
*what are the chances of it happening two years in a row??
