Doin' my bit

When my kids were little, Jay and I always let them stay home from school on Take Your Daughters to Work Day.
Because we are not sexists, we let our boys skip school too. Nothing ever happens in school on that day because too many kids are gone. Anyway, the first time, Jay always took them to the gym with him. But sometimes he had no classes and was going to be running all over town and it wouldn't have been good to drag a little kid where Jay needed to go, so on those days I let the kids come to work with me.
Stay at home Moms need to be represented, no?
Besides, I work at home. When the kids let me, I paint in my studio. So on TYDtWday, I let them hang out in my office with me while I got at least one order done, then I went about my regular duties as a FullTimeMom. They paid close attention as I went to the grocery store, Target, Home Depot (if they were lucky) and maybe even Sam's Club, which came to be known as "free sample" store. I took them to the bank with me, where they were always given suckers. If it was nice out, we'd go for a bike ride or walk around the lake. Then, back home we made cookies and hung out in the back yard or the park til it was time to make dinner.
The result of all this hard work is that all my kids wanted to grow up to be stay at home Moms.
I told them it won't be easy. It takes a lot of hard work, some serious planning and a little luck. I'm just happy to have been able to instill a dream in my kids' hearts.
