This past week, I watched two movies by Terry Gilliam.

He's a crap director is the conclusion I've come to.

The Brothers Grimm could've been a good movie but it needed at least one more rewrite, or a director who knows how to tell a story.  The plot was kind of fun but the movie was a mess. Watching it was like listening to someone try to tell a joke but they keep interrupting themselves to add important details that they'd left out until it was too late.

Twelve Monkeys was plagued by the same problems but it worked because the movie was supposed to be confusing and mixed up.  Bruce Willis wasn't very good in it but Brad Pitt was.  My favorite moment in the movie was when Christopher Plummer tells Brad Pitt "you're completely insane." and Brad waits about four beats, then simply says "no I'm not."

From now on, I think I'll avoid Terry Gilliam movies.
