This is why people go crazy and start shooting!
I just spent a half an hour upstairs trying to get online. Apparently my internet connection was too weak up there. This whole "wireless" thing is a good idea. I just wish it would work more often. So now, I'm down in the basement trying to write this. This is my second attempt, since the second I logged on my dam spyware went nuts. Shut me down and started everything over again.
I'm watching Kiss, kiss, bang, bang while I write. so far, it's pretty funny. Robert Downey Jr. is getting beat up right now.
I just finished a book called The Strange Case of the Walking Corpse. I saw it at Half Price Books and couldn't resist. It sounds like it should be an X-file novel, but it's not. It's a chronicle of medical mysteries, curious remedies and bizarre but true healing folklore. It's highly entertaining and funny. Not for the faint of heart or the hypochondriac, of course. The chapter on parasites could keep my sister awake for weeks with the title alone. There are also chapters on uncommon ailments, freaks of nature and sexual maladies. The chapter on what people have been willing to do to themselves for the sake of beauty is informative. Aside from feet wrapping and using lead based face paint, there are the cultures that wrap parts of the body to force it into pleasing shapes. " Of course," the author, Nancy Butcher, writes: "We're so much smarter now" and then she launches into a paragraph on the dangers of the botulinum toxin, one of the "nastiest and most dangerous poisons in the world." It sounds so much prettier when you call it botox. Let's inject some in our faces! It gets rid of wrinkles all right, by paralysing the tissue. That's how it kills you; it paralyses your respiratory system. Cool. I'm serving that at my next party.
It was a really good book.
I did have a party last Saturday, but I served no botilinum toxin. It wasn't really a party, just some friends we haven't seen in a while. It was a lovely evening, we ate outside and then sat in the front yard talking and watching the storms pass far off to the west and north. Unfortunately, the same storm spawned a killer tornado north of town, but all we could see was the never ending light show. The sky pulsed with lightening for two hours but we never heard any thunder. It was a good night here.
