Triskadekaphobia

This past weekend started out as crap.
Friday morning began with me trying to raise a stink at Zack's school, where he'd been transferred out of his history class, where he was currently earning an A. He hasn't had an A in school in longer than I can remember and I didn't like the school fixing what wasn't broken.
Long dull story short, I got an email from his new teacher that set my mind at rest. Basically the new teacher, who also happens to be the football coach, told me "Lady, pull your head out of your backseat, I'm not going to allow your knucklehead of a son to slack off in my class. Out."
Of course, he was very nice about it, but that's what I read between the lines and that's exactly what I needed to hear. I warned him that I was his problem now and to expect lots of nagging emails about how Zack was doing.
Once that little chore was over, I had a standing in line at the DMV sized headache which didn't go away all day. Just when I was finally starting to relax, Zack had to remind me that being the parents of a teenager can be nine kinds of nightmares. Let's just say "it could've been worse."
Saturday was lovely, too. All summer long I've been saying "Who cares that gas is 3 bucks a gallon? I'm a rich American and I can afford it!!"
Turns out I'm not and I can't.
Oh well.
Things began looking up considerably on Saturday afternoon, at our niece (great niece?) Sophia's first birthday party. It's always fun when you pack a house full of Pivecs. We were at Jay's sister Patty's new place. Niether of us had been there before. It was lovely, and in a charming developement. Sophia liked her presents almost as much as the pink tissue paper all over the floor. She took a real shine to Josie and she tried to steal my red clogs. For dessert there was 'better than sex' chocolate cake.
It was good, but I always think it's a mistake to advertise that way. I mean, later on I don't remember thinking "Gee, I wish I was eating more of that cake..."
Sunday brought things all the way back to good. The sun came out and it was warm enough to open all the windows and let the sunshine and fresh air in. I walked around the lake in the morning, washed windows for fun in the afternoon and we even cooked out. Jay brought home ribeye!!
This morning dawned grey and wet, as if yesterday had been nothing more than a lovely dream. but it was still pretty warm out, so I'm not complaining.
I'm just glad I got through Friday the 13th's weekend relatively unscathed.
Time to get back to work. I love Mondays; the whole week ahead of me and no idea what comes next!
