Yesterday afternoon, I took a van full of kids down to MCTC to see the TFKM*.  We didn't play very well and lost to Wahpeton, the grizzly details of which can be found at www.minneapolisbasketball.com.  The final score was not really indicative of how bad our shooting was.  I could've missed as many free throws as our guys did.  Oh well, that basketball.

After the game Zack went to a friend's house so Josie and I came home and had dinner and watched Akeelah and the Bee, which Josie had seen and really wanted to share with me.

It was excellent.  This movie does for spelling bees what Searching for Bobby Fisher did for chess tournaments.  The biggest difference is that Lawrence Fishburn plays the part that Ghandi played in the chess movie and no one plays the part that Lawrence Fishburn played.  Angela Bassett played Akeelah's mom and I kept expecting Ike to belt Tina again.  He didn't, even though she kinda deserved it in this one.

It's not quite as good as Searching for Bobby Fisher simply because SBF came first and was based on a real kid.
But it was still a terrific movie to watch with your kids.
