Unforgiven

Apparently something called Film Threat puts out an online list every year that is the opposite of People Mag's 100 most powerful Hollywood insiders. This is the Frigid list, or people who can't get arrested in Hollywood.
Topping the list (or bottoming, I guess) is Mel Gibson, who obviously can get arrested in Hollywood.
As everyone knows, Mel got drunk last summer, drove anyway, got arrested and made some horribly offensive remarks about Jewish people. Hollywood will not tolerate hate speach!
I don't think he actually said that any particular person should die, as Joan Rivers said about him but what he did say was pretty bad. Maybe Joan was trying to be funny. It's hard to tell with her.
Mel didn't call a particular public personage a vile name like Kanye West did when, in front of cameras and without the excuse of being drunk, he called George Bush a racist. What Kanye said was slander and actionable. Kanye is hailed as being brave and speaking truth to power although there's no truth in what he said and I don't get what's so brave about being insulting in a Democracy that holds a constitutional right to say offensive things. It doesn't matter of course; you can say whatever you want about politicians. As long as you stay away from the word "macaca".
But no one has the right to drive drunk! This is serious and Mel should have to take responsibility for it. Look at Robert Downey jr. for heaven's sake. He's been arrested several times for driving under the influence, has done time for substance abuse and breaking parole! His career suffered for his bad decisions, or at least it would have if the judge hadn't let him out for filmwork. Downey jr. and Aaron Sorkin are both hailed as being brave survivors for having had the stones to undergo court ordered rehabilitation.
So if it's not the nasty rhetoric or the substance abuse, what does Hollywood consider unforgivable?
Not child pornography. R Kelly is considered a musical genius and was in demand through out his trial for child pornography. He was acquitted, too! That means he's still a genius.
Heck, you don't even have to be acquitted. Look at Roman Polanski, convicted of statutory rape for having had sex with a thirteen year old girl. Thirteen. That's a seventh grader. To put it in perspective, thirteen year olds are much too young to serve as pages in Washington D.C. He was convicted, left the country to avoid prison and continues to this day to make movies that Hollywood lauds and welcomes. Of course it was only statutory rape. We can assume the little girl consented to sexual intercourse.
Victor Salva wasn't convicted of statutory rape. This "unsung auteur", this "thinking man's Spielberg" (take that, Steven!) was convicted of raping little boys. He didn't get a chance to leave the country and continue his career from the sophisticated shores of Europe. He did prison time and is a registered sex offender. After serving his time he was welcomed back into the business and directed another Jeepers Creepers movie.
Raping children isn't an unforgivable sin in Hollywood, so what in the world did Mel Gibson really do to so thoroughly trash the bankability of a Star who was #1 on the A-list for decades?
Simple; he not only made a movie respectfully depicting the origins of Christianity, he did it without the help or approval of Hollywood and he made over $400 million dollars doing it.
For that
he
must
pay.
But dont' worry, Mel! According to George MeatFace Clooney, Hollywood is the most tolerant segment of America! Why, they were all into civil rights and gay rights and AIDS activism and stuff while the rest of us Yahoos were still stoning witches for being communists! The Spanish Inquisition is Over!
Isn't it?
