The Devil Wears Prada

Finally saw the Devil Wears Prada. It was cute. I was glad I hadn't spent eight bucks to see it in a theatre.
I enjoyed watching Anne Hathaway get all fashioned up, that's always fun. Meryl Streep was marvelous.
But I think the producers of this were so intent on getting the fashion right that they never noticed that the story had gotten lost.
What the heck was the point here? Was the boss really the Boss from Hell? Then why make her the most interesting character and ultimately far more sympathetic than the whiney boyfriend who dumped ol' Annie because she had the bad sense to be really good at her job and find herself enjoying it?
And what's wrong with liking a job you're really good at?
There's certainly nothing wrong with choosing a happy personal life over International Corporate Success, but there's nothing evil about trying to have both, either. It's not like Meryl Streep's character shrugged off another divorce and felt nothing.
And that boyfriend, the guy who plays Vincent Chase on Entourage! He's as bad an actor as Vince. No charisma at all. Yes, he's good looking. In a way that would have any semi intelligent woman bored to death in under a half an hour. NOthing is less attractive than a man who pouts and that's all this mope did.
And why the heck are we supposed to believe that 'journalism' is a nobler profession than fashion? Journalists lie, cheat, stab each other in the back and do all the nasty things the fashionistas did to each other and they don't even look good doing it!
And another thing; that guy who played the free lance writer with whom our Herione has a one night stand? Yuck. Never cared for blonde guys to begin with but that guy will always be the dead fag from L.A. Confidential to me.Yuck.
Meryl Streep was really fun to watch, though. She reminded me of the woman I have worked for for thirty years; always perfectly put together, has unerring taste, treats all her subordinates like morons, never raised her voice but struck terror in the hearts of any and all who work for her. Except me. I like her alot. I'm sure that's why I liked Streep's character. The one line in the movie that made me laugh outloud was when she said
"...so I said to myself, take a chance! Hire the smart, fat girl.."
about Anne Hathaway!
I found myself watching the movie just like I used to read Archie comics; just to see what Veronica would be wearing next.
