For Your Consideration

The trouble with movies about Hollywood or any other aspect of the industry is that they are inherently full of in jokes that the movie going public won't think are funny.
I thought For Your Consideration was funny but not in the same league as the rest of Christopher Guest's stuff. Mostly I just had the impression that movie making is a horrible process full of horrible people. Even the nicer people, which Catherine O'hara's character seemed to be, get sucked into the horror of the business. I say she was nicer, because even with her self absorbed insecurities she seemed less steamrollerish that the rest of the characters. I laughed outloud several times but mostly at throw away lines that were so off the wall that I could't help myself than at any overtly funny set ups. There was nothing at all that compared to Corky St. Clair's choreography in Waiting for Guffman. Even Fred Willard went so far over the top as to be not funny but just obnoxious.
Zack, who loves all of C.Guest's work couldn't even finish watching it. He thought it was just painful and not funny at all.
The funniest thing on the disc were the out takes of the interview between Ricky Gervais and the blonde publicist who wanted to know if he could talk without an accent.
(The title of yesterday's post was a movie quote. I just can't help myself. Oh wait, that's a quote, too.)
