At World's End

Saw Pirates of the Caribbean; At World's End during the last rainy afternoon. Nonstop fun, a layered plot and wonderful special affects. Well, except for the incredible fifty foot woman. That was lame.
But I am strangely disturbed by the way the story ended.
I'm going to write about it now, so if you haven't seen it yet, don't read any more. Why haven't you seen it yet? It's been out for, like, three weeks! You want to wait til it comes out on dvd? Mistake. It's definitely a big screen movie.
I loved it, but I am surprised that the love story between Elizabeth Swan and Will Turner came to such a sad end. After all, we've watched the intrepid lovers go through quite a bit in their bid for wedded bliss. Is it too much to expect a happily ever after? What they ended up with is a lot worse than half a loaf. As the new captain of the Flying Dutchman, Will can come ashore for one day every ten years. Since he and Elizabeth managed to get married in the moments leading up to his death, we all assume we know how he'll use his one day a decade.
But how much does that suck?!
You marry someone because you want to be with them. Will and Elizabeth are not together and now they never will be! Elizabeth has Will's heart in a box (YUCK!), no hope of seeing him for at least ten years and no chance of getting on with her life without him. Will gets to look forward to, oh, two or three more days with Elizabeth and then a lonely eternity of being the Sea Dead's Taxi Service.
I gotta believe that about a week after they struck this devil's bargain they regretted it.
Elizabeth: "We got married, then Will died, then we went on our Honeymoon and now he's at work. He'll be back in ten years. I hope I don't get fat."
Will: "She's always had my heart, so I gift wrapped it for her. Ten years. Damn. I should've given her my balls."
I keep reminding myself "It's fiction. They aren't real. It's not tragic. It's just Disney."
Best line of the movie is when some East Indian Company officer says of Capt. Jack Sparrow "Do you think he planned it all out, or is he making it up as he goes along?"
Johnny Depp was brilliant, as usual and barely prevented Geoffrey Rush from stealing the movie from him. If they decide to continue with the franchise, I for one will certainly continue to plunk down my money to see it.
