Tyler came into town late Tuesday night.  He'll be here for a week.  First thing Wednesday morning, he hopped on line and read what I had written about Zack's long walk home.

"I hate to tell you this, Mom," he said "But as long as Grandma's on deck, you'll never be Mother of the Year."

I can live with that.  I don't think my Mom has a single grandchild that wouldn't vote for her first and then their own mom for Mother of the Year.  And I don't think she has a single daughter or daughter in law who would take exception to it.  Being compared to my Mom is like being compared to Mohamed Ali or Michael Jordan.  So I'm the Scottie Pippen of Motherhood.  I'm okay with that.

I got an email from Margy yesterday.  She built a tower out of footstools, climbed on top of it and of course it broke and she tumbled to the floor.  Now she has a broken rib.  She's in excruciating pain and can't move.  She can't mix cookies, wrap presents or drive her car for at least two weeks.  I keep telling her that furniture is not gym equipment but she tends to get mixed up.  She's always been like that.  When we were little she jumped off a rope swing when it was at it's apex.  All the other kids hopped off while it was at the top of the hill, but not Marg.  She waited til she was about 25 feet over the bottom of the hill to do her triple Lindy.  The fall was stylish but the landing was awful.  Fortunately, she landed in a bush which broke her fall rather than her neck.  She suffered from a bruised kidney but no broken bones that time.  Lucky she didn't land on a vacuum cleaner.

Tyler turned 25 on Sunday and asked me if he could have a birthday party while he was home, so he could see all his buddies.  It was a good dry run for the Christmas eve bash we're throwing next week.  I made a big pot of penne pasta with a terrific sauce that Zack invented, made out of alfredo sauce, chorizo sausage and diced tomatoes.  It was enjoyed by all.

Grandma and Grandpa showed up with olive jars.  This seemed strange until they told us that the olive jars were really full of martinis.  What had seemed strange was suddenly a million dollar idea.  After dinner, we had cake and then the guys took over two of the tv's to watch basketball games.

Josie and I escaped to the basement and watched some vintage tv.  That's when we got the call about Molly's hair getting "ripped".  That episode is described at www.yuckysaladwithbones.com.

I told Tyler about Molly chopping off all her hair and after he was done laughing he said "She'll still be the cutest thing ever.  Maybe even cuter."  Then he and Jay went off to watch the Gopher's practice.

Yesterday, the microwave stand we ordered was delivered.  It's perfect; white, two shelves, tall enough for the blender and cuisinart to fit underneath and small enough to be very unobtrusive in the corner.  It's arrival coincided with the guys who built the new spice rack showing up and installing that.  So the kitchen is almost finished.  The new spice rack is built into where the old microwave cabinet was, the new cart is in place and the tv room is now big enough for the tv Jay wants to watch sports on.

Oh, and Mary Jeanne and Kent heard their baby's heartbeat for the first time.

It was a good day.
