Last night, Jay and I watched The Guardian, Kevin Costner's turn at playing Lou Gosset Jr., only in the Coast Guard instead of the Navy. This movie has everything; life and death struggles, explosions, big waves...the only thing missing was Kate Bosworth in a bikini. Not that I missed her, not with all the good looking youngsters in the swimming pool. Did I mention Ashton Kutcher plays Richard Gere? Kevin Costner is the legendary Rescue Diver who lost his best friend, Goose, in a terrible helicopter/dive rescue attempt/accident. So, to get his bearings back, he takes a temporary position as Chief instructor at the Rescue Dive training camp. Enter hottie Ashton as the champion swimmer who turned down ivy league offers to instead join the fake navy. He's young, hot, cocky and talented. Naturally, there is a tragedy in his background. So, Crash Davis teaches him to breathe through his eyes and wear women's undergarments and lo and behold! A legendary rescue diver is born!
There's actually a voice over at the end to inform anyone who lasted that long why the film is called The Guardian. This is absolutely necessary, as we couldn't for the life of us understand why the title wasn't "An Officer and An Aquaman", "Crash Davis takes a Few Good Men Swimming" or "Top Squirt Gun".
To sum up; water, explosions, Ashton Kutcher crying, all covered with an extra large helping of cheese. A+!
