Bio-fuels sound like a great idea but they sure aren't working out like the p.r. description, are they?
We should have known right away that there was something wrong with the whole idea. I mean, it would be different if we could use an underutilized crop to produce bio-fuel, something like dead leaves or grass clippings. That would be great, but no! we use food crops.
Food.
As if most of the 6 billion people on Earth don't eat.
"Hey, everybody! Instead of putting this energy directly into our engines, we're gonna use it to turn our food into energy and we'll put that in our engines!"
"But I was gonna eat that."
"No, this will be better for the Earth!"
"How? We're still using the original energy. We're just out a lot of food."
"Why do you hate clean air and water?"
"I'm hungry!"
Even Time magazine has a cover story on what a boondoggle ethanol is. When Time "Men and Women are Different!" Magazine is onto something, you know the cat is out of the bag.
Soon we'll be able to use the remains of all the Haitians and Mexicans, who are starving to death due to our stupid energy policies, to fuel our engines. There is precedent, after all. Crematoriums in Britain are turning the exhaust from their ovens inside so as to heat their facilities with the dead, so why not drive our cars on the corpses of the starved? I've even got a great name for this new bio-fuel;
Soylent Green.
