America Alone

I just finished America Alone by Mark Steyne.
It's the scariest book I've ever read.
Mr. Steyne is a very entertaining writer and parts of the book had me laughing out loud, but the subject matter was extremely sobering. He starts with world wide demographics and runs from there. I know it sounds dull as dirt but it's not.
Two old sayings sum up the point of the book.
Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it.
And
There are none so blind as those who will not see.
I console myself with the knowledge that things rarely continue in the direction they seem to be heading. No one predicted that the Soviet Union would simply crumble of it's own weight. Right up until the day the wall fell, members of my generation assumed it would always be so. In the eighties the conventional wisdom was that the U.S. economy would never be able to compete with Japan. It made perfect sense at the time, but things change on a dime in the real world.
It's a really good book.
