In Bruges

Man, this has been a great summer, weather-wise! The humid days, like today, aren't too hot and the hot days have managed to avoid being sticky. We've had lots of hot days but only had to turn on the central air a few times and even on those days we've turned it off by the time we go to bed. I love this. Most of the rain that we've had has been in the evenings or early morning. It's been about as good as it can possibly be. That might mean that there's a tornado with my address on it coming along next week but I'm not going to worry about it.
Yesterday was a perfectly lovely Sunday. After mass, Jay cooked up an omelet for all of us. Then I goofed off for an hour or so before heading up to my office. I painted some 12" Santas. They are exactly what they sound like. Jay cooked us some country style ribs, low and slow. They baked all day and when we ate them they were sweet and juicy and fell apart. After we ate, we took a drive around the south metro in the convertible and wound up at the Liberty Frozen Yogurt on Nicolette. The place was hoppin' and I love to see that.
When we finally returned home, all the kids were gone so we popped in the latest Netflix arrival and watched In Bruges. It stars Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell as a pair of hit men hiding out in the very picturesque Belgian town of Bruges. It's violent and predictable but the dialogue was very funny and all together it was entertaining. A nice little movie, about people who do terrible things, that doesn't try to be anything other than what it is.
Bruges really does look like a wonderful little fairy tale of a town.
I went with Katie this morning to pick up the lease for her new apartment. It's a very nice place. Big and roomy. High ceilings and lots of built in cupboards. Either of the bedrooms will be three times the size of the closet she's been living in. Nice neighborhood, too. Close to everything. The building is getting new windows put in this fall, as well. They're going to enjoy living there.
