Watchmen

In my movie going frenzy of the last two weeks, I saw several trailers for the movie Watchmen. It looks cool and I know we have a copy of the graphic novel around here, so I dug it up and read it.
I have no idea how they made a movie out of it.
I guess they had to pare the story down
a lot. They may skip the cold war angle, update the time line and fictionalize the politicians. It's all doable. Or, they could stick to the story--it is, after all, a comic book
classic and any tampering could piss off the fans.
The special effects will have to be very cool.
I liked the story. I have always been a fan of comic books and I admire the illustrations of the super hero genre. It's a lot harder than it looks. The illustrations of Watchmen are integral to how the story is told and how it flows and how the reader understands the time line. Dave Gibbons does a remarkable job of keeping Alan Moore's convoluted plot and layered storytelling comprehensible. Gibbons has one glaring weakness, however; he can't draw women at all.
At all.
It's as if he's never actually
seen a woman.
His female characters look like muscular drag queens.
But that's a small quibble. If you like sci-fi or graphic novels, you've probably already read Watchmen. It's pretty good.
