Well the American Gymnasts didn't fall off their apparatus's last night.  Jay grilled us some chicken and after dinner Josie and I hunkered down to watch us some Olympics.

Michael Phelps won again but he did it while I was running out to pick up Zack from the bus stop so it doesn't count.

To me, it doesn't.

It was fun to watch the girl's all around competition but I did feel bad for the little Chinese girls.  They are so cute and you can't lay the blame for cheating on them.  It's a totalitarian regime; they do as they're told and now that they failed to win gold and silver in the all around they could easily be shipped off to some work farm.  China is notoriously low on females these days, thanks to their horrific population control policies.  I'm sure those poor girls will be auctioned off to some government officials sons when they're thirteen.  In about four years.  So yeah, I felt bad for them.  Still do.

But how good were the Americans!  I finally understood the new scoring measures.  It actually makes sense to add the difficulty level to the base score.  I understood what Tim Dagget meant when he said that Shawn Johnson couldn't catch Nastia for the gold.  I also love the fact that former Soviet medalists brought their children here to become Olympians in free America instead of post soviet Russia.  Do you think her Dad ever dreamed during his own competitive days that he would see his daughter accept a gold medal while the Star Spangled Banner played?  I love it.

Got up early today to make blueberry coffeecake.  Ty and Tif had to catch a plane at noon so we roused everyone early enough to take some pictures.  I wanted some family pics so that maybe I'll get around to sending a Christmas card this year.  I meant to send one last year but stuff happened.  At least now I've got some nice photos I can send out.

It seems weird, though, to have Ty gone again.

All the fun of the summer is now over.  Josie goes to karate camp and then we have to get ready for school.

Yuck.

This has been an insanely fun summer, however.  And there's still track and field to look forward to!

I guess when school starts, at least I'll catch up on my sleep.
