I had to get up this morning and head to Josie's school. I had volunteered to stuff envelopes. I don't mind doing that. In fact, I find it kind of therapeutic. After all, there's no thought involved and you just grind away at it til your done. I'm just obsessive compulsive enough to need to find the most efficient way for me to do it so that I can be the fastest stuffer, labeler or sealer in the room. Hah! I totally won, today.
I used to volunteer for picture day. The company that handles the Mpls schools give free packages to the parent volunteers so it was actually a very worthwhile way for me to volunteer when I had three and four kids at one school. I didn't pay for any of my kids' school photos until about two years ago. At that time, I only had Josie left in elementary school and I decided it was time to step aside and let the mom's with lots of kids have that gig.
I stuffed, labeled and sealed for four and a half hours.
At least the weather was lousy.
It's the last day of the summer for the pool that we joined but no one even wants to go because it's cool and overcast. We went last Monday, which was gorgeous and hot. I actually got sunburned because I forgot to put sunscreen on my self. It's August, who thinks about sunscreen any more? On the other hand, whoever heard of getting fried in August? That's as dumb as accidentally canceling your phone service. Which I did last week. Oh, like you've never done that! It's okay, we were only without service for a little over a day. It was kind of nice. Except for the part where everyone else in the house whined about no internet. What a bunch of babies.
Zack started college on Monday. He didn't want a blueberry coffeecake because we had just finished the one I made for Tyler when he went back to Austin. Zack wanted fruit pizza, so I made that instead. I didn't have to get up early, either. Zack's first class wasn't until after lunch but then he was in class until 9:00 pm. Jay ran into him on campus during the afternoon and Zack already had a camera in hand, shooting footage.
Zack has had three classes and so far, he loves it.
I discovered the other day that mice have gotten into the cupboard under the kitchen sink. They've been chewing holes in the garbage bag under there. The last two bags had holes in them so I cleaned out the cupboard and bought some good traps. I hate the old spring loaded ones. I was always snapping them on my fingers while trying to load them up, so I sprang for the good ones. I'll tell you what, two for $4.89 was a deal! They're easy to bait, easy to set and I caught two mice after dinner last night. Unfortunately, only one was dead. The other had gotten a let caught and was running all over in the cupboard. Before I could summon the fortitude to kill it with my own hands, it dived back down the hole it came in through and when I tried to pull it back out, it's leg came out of the trap. So there's a lame mouse limping around under my kitchen. There was another dead one this morning. It didn't have a broken leg. We'll see what happens tonight.
I can't believe summer vacation is almost over. Next week Josie starts 8th grade. She also decided at camp that she wants to work for her black belt.
I talked to my brother Joe yesterday. He was at the high school down the street from his house with his seven year old son. Vince had asked Joe to go running with him. When Joe asked Vince why he wanted to go running, Vince said he needed to get ready for the Olympics.
It's good to have goals.
