Keepin' it Real?

The more I think about it, the more I think Joe Biden was the absolute best pick for Obama's running mate.  I have come to the conclusion that Obama is the biggest phony ever to run for office.  He talks about hope and change but all of his policy positions are about despair.  He talks about unity but the man he credits as his "spiritual adviser" spews hate and division. He talks about healing the nation while his wife calls it down right mean. He talks about being a Christian while adamantly refusing to confer the status of "person" on a newborn child.  He talks about "fairness" in the context of confiscation of the property of some citizens.  He accidentally admitted that it was "fairness" and not revenue that formed his desire to raise capital gains taxes.  He's supposed to be this great orator, but without a teleprompter he turns right into Dan Quayle.  Fifty seven states?  A breathalyser for asthmatic children?  Bill Clinton may have attributed a quote from the Gettysburg Address to both the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence in the same speech, but I do think the smartest man ever to come out of Arkansas knows how many states there are.

There's nothing about Obama that is real, and it is all summed up in his Veep.

Nothing says "phony" quite as well as hair plugs.

Meanwhile, I heard Nancy Pelosi commit heresy on Sunday.

Madam Speaker, like so many prominent Democrats these days, loves to call attention to her Catholicism.

I am Catholic.  Catholic is a good friend of mine.  Ms. Pelosi, you are no Catholic.

Okay I know that's not fair, but I couldn't resist.  Ms. Pelosi is a Catholic.  She's what we affectionately refer to as a "Bad Catholic", a position we all find ourselves in from time to time.  Being a good Catholic is very hard. Being a good Catholic all the time is nearly impossible, which is why we call the few people able to pull it off "Saints".  As Carla Tortelli once said on "Cheers"; "It's not a religion for wimps".

For instance; thinking, much less writing, much less saying, such uncharitable things about Ms. Pelosi is very wrong of me and I need to repent, go to confession and ask forgiveness for such arrogance.  I know that arrogance is my worst vice.  Really,  I'm extraordinarily arrogant.  I'm so full of myself that...oh, there I go again.  Damn.

But the fact of the matter is that Ms. Pelosi completely misrepresented the historical position of the Catholic Church regarding abortion.  Normally, such wrong headedness is a personal matter between one's self and  God.  But Ms. Pelosi, as Speaker of the House and describing herself as an "ardent, devoted Catholic" is setting herself up as a role model and leader of the Church and she's leading many of the  flock into a place that the Church has consistently considered outside of redemption.  This is not an area where Catholics may disagree.   To do so doesn't make you a bad Catholic, it makes you a "Protestant".

For a Catholic, nothing is beyond redemption but the first step to forgiveness is to acknowledge you are wrong.  If your spiritual leaders insist on the correctness of your position, how can you ever repent?

This is why the Church used to burn heretics at the stake.

Ah, the good old days.  They never would've burned me for heresy.

They would've burned me for witchcraft.
