Mother of the Decade

Josie had been counting the days until High School Musical 3 opened.  She was totally psyched!  She had plans to go with her cousins and assorted aunts on opening day.  Then volleyball intervened.

Her tournament started yesterday, as the movie opened.

Sometimes plan A just doesn't work.

So while everyone else in America high tailed it to the cineplex to sigh happily while staring at dreamy Zach Efron (he's no Davy Jones), Josie and her team were digging, bumping and spiking up on the north east side.

Our team played very well.  Josie made some insane plays at the net.  The tourny is double elimination. We played very well, but lost the first game.

I had done Pilates two days earlier and was still extremely sore.  I remembered to bring my bleachers pad, so at least I had that.  The gym was packed with people.  For the first game, I couldn't even get a seat and had to stand on the sidelines.  For the second game, a lot of folks had left the gym so I got a seat.  If not for that pad, I wouldn't have been able to walk after the game.  I could barely walk as it was.

In keeping with my drive to be named Mother of the Decade, I was secretly happy that our team lost their second game as well.  Don't get me wrong, I cheered for us and I was glad to see us play well, but when the wheels came off and we blew the last set, I wasn't exactly depressed.

So the idea of spending Saturday morning in a gym on the north side didn't ring my bell.  Sorry.

Instead of volleyball, we spent the day doing fun stuff.

First, I walked around the lake with Andy and Charlie.  It was a gorgeous day!  Warm and crisp and beautiful.  A lot of trees still have their leaves, the sky was that particular bright blue it only is in the autumn and it was warm enough to sweat in a fleece jacket.

Then, Josie, Meg and I went to Home Depot and got some paint for Josie's room.  She wants to add some orange and green to the color scheme up there.  It's light blue with lilac trim.  The colors she chose to go with all of it look very good together; festive and bright.  She has a great eye for color.  Then we stopped off at Party City so the girls could get some Halloween stuff.

While we were standing in line, a guy asked the clerk if they had any "Joe the Plumber"  costumes.

"No, he came along too soon to Halloween" she said.  "We coulda sold a lot of Joe the Plumber costumes this year."

I didn't' ask if Joe was considered scary or not.

When we got home, Josie and Meg emptied out the two book cases we planned to paint, cleaned them and hauled them out onto the deck.  We painted them and halfway through the second one, I realized the color she had chosen, called "vintage orange" was really circus peanut orange.

I hope they look good upstairs.

Now Jay has thrown the chops on the grill and I'm going to make some good cookies since the devil cookies were such a disaster.

I'm tired but it's a good tired.

Ooh! Dick brought champagne!
