The fat lady has sung and she stomped all over John McCain while she did it.

The most surprising thing to me was that the polls were apparently right on the money as Obama won in an honest to goodness land slide.

My disappointment lasted about twice as long as the disappointment I felt last summer when the Timberwolves didn't hire Jay.  That pang took me 7.5 seconds to get over and last night took me at least fifteen.

But while I was watching the speeches and listening to my neighborhood erupt in cheers and honking I understood things that hadn't occurred to me before.

Winning this election meant more to about 30 million Americans than any election has ever or most likely will ever mean to me.  Watching the families on the stage and the faces in the crowd, I had a glimpse of the psychology at work in this campaign and I saw nothing but good things.  I get it.  I get how so many support this guy regardless of his policies.

President elect Obama said in his acceptance speech that they had fundamentally transformed America.  And I thought "That's what you meant?  Why the heck didn't you say that months ago?"

Whether or not the election of a black man as president is actually a fundamental change in America doesn't even matter; for many, many people this election is a fundamental change in their perception of America.

And I thought "Good for you!"

Yes We Can!

Well, of course you can!  You always could, all you had to do was believe it and get out there and work for it!

Don't get me wrong, I disagree 180 degrees with every single position of Obama's that I'm familiar with.  There will be plenty of time for bitching and moaning later.

Today I feel the love, I'm proud of America and if this is the final psychological barrier for hyphenated Americas to drop the hyphen and feel fully embraced by the American dream, that may, in the long run, outweigh the disastrous policies Nancy's gang has in store for us.

A year from now, if we're all broke and the average wait to see an obstetrician is ten months (as it is in Canada) you can be sure I'll be singing another tune.

But today is a good day and I say Congratulations, President Elect Obama!

And the idea of four years with Plugs as veep makes me light headed with glee.
