Australia

Too tired to do anything but sit and stare yesterday, I went with my sister Katie and Mom-n-Dad to see Australia, or as I think of it, "Far and Away Down Under with the Man From Snowy River!
Trust Baz Lurman not to leave anything out, including the cutest little kid I've ever seen in a movie.
Australia is overblown, panoramic, melodramatic, epic, gorgeous, heart wringing, predictable, over the top romantic sap and I loved every second of it.
Coming out of the theater, Dad, who is hearing aid dependent, said "I couldn't hear any of the dialog...but I don't think I missed anything."
That was it, exactly. You could watch this with the sound off and any emotional, romantic music on instead and you'd get the entire movie. In fact, when I buy it, that's exactly how I'm going to watch it.
It's not a great movie; the plot meanders all over the place, the love story turns out to be a threeway and the villain is completely impotent. It's highly enjoyable and a treat for the eyes but even a few hours after seeing it, the only thing that really stayed with me was that Hugh Jackman has never looked so good, and DAMN that's saying a lot.
