Experience

Lately the notion of experience has been all over the political news.  Obama has no experience, Palin has no experience and now Caroline Kennedy, who wants to be appointed to Hillary Clinton's senate seat, has no experience.

I'm sick of it.

We're talking politics here, not brain surgery.  Every one of the people we're talking about has spent more than forty years building themselves successful lives.  I think that experience counts for something.  What the talking heads are whining about is experience in politics, which is like saying "I don't want that guy fixing my plumbing; he's not covered in enough poop."

As far as the Presidency goes, there have been plenty of experienced gents who sucked at the job.  Sucked big time.

What this all smacks of is politicians and their shills in the press pretending that they really are a cut above your average citizen; they want us peons out here in flyover land to believe that they really are experts not only at running a campaign, but at running the banks, the environment, health care and the auto industry.  It's all bullpooky.

We're about to allow Al Franken to call himself The Senator from the Great State of Minnesota.  Is there anyone, anywhere who actually believes that Stuart Smalley knows more about anything than your local garbage man?

So Caroline wants to be a Senator.  Why the hell not?  Hillary got the job with no more experience but that of First Lady.  Caroline was First daughter, so she's kind of a perfect replacement.

Wouldn't you rather be represented in the U.S. Senate by a non politician of personal integrity than by a political hack who doesn't know anything beyond the beltway and doesn't care about anything beyond their next fund raiser?  I would.

I've never heard anything to suggest that Caroline is either dishonest or stupid but if it turns out Caroline is in fact, dishonest and stupid, well then she's perfect senatorial material.
