Things have already gotten ridiculous.

We had inaugural coverage on most of the day, here.  I didn't watch past the speech, I had work to do and I'm not all that interested in watching other people party.  Not even the glamor of the Oscars holds my attention for much more than ten minutes and those people are attractive, don't ask me to watch politicians get all dolled up.  But Jay enjoys the pomp and ceremony, so he watched a lot of it.  I did go in a few times to see the first couple in their party togs.  Michelle looked lovely in her ball gown and Barack is certainly a dapper guy.  They were on the jumbotron in widescreen, which was unfortunate as it made them look like they were two feet tall and three feet wide.  Not very flattering, the new technology.  I guess that's what the first black Mayor of the Munchkin city would look like.

Oz.  Now there was a racist place!  The only people of color in the whole land were the Wicked Witch and her henchmen.  You know, maybe she wouldn't have been wicked if you had let her sit in the front of the bus just once you bastards!  "Emerald" City, my ass.  The only emerald person around and you make her hang out with the flying monkeys...

The parties in Washington DC are in full swing, all the elected officials are having a great time and the six republicans left in town are skulking around trying to get into parties unnoticed and stealing drinks when no one is looking.  This is all normal, ordinary change of administration, inaugural fun.

What's weird is listening to the coverage.  The commentators have lost their minds.   Yes, the First Family is a good looking bunch.  They're young, well educated, attractive examples of American exceptionalism.  Nothing odd in that.  Yes, the speech was grand, the parade splendid and the parties glorious.  They should be; many countries have annual budgets that wouldn't cover the cost of the champagne being imbibed in our capital this evening.  We're Americans and we like to party.

But I actually heard some talking head say that Obama was on track to being one of our greatest presidents.

He's been president for ten hours.

When did we start letting twelve year old girls in the throes of their first crush do the news?

Journalism is dead.
