Zack went and saw the midnight show of The Watchmen the other night.

Zack is the target demographic for this movie; young, male, comic loving, super hero loving, graphic novel reading movie aficionado.  More than all that, Zack loves movies.  He's been analyzing and picking apart movies since he was four years old.  He notices things like how the score is used to heighten emotions, how camera angles can bias a scene, how info can be passes through settings, lighting and the position of the actors in relation to the camera.  He's getting good grades in all of his college classes, where he's actually majoring in movies.

He's my in-house expert.

We first saw previews for The Watchmen months ago and we were disappointed that the release date was pushed back.  That never bodes well for a movie.

He saw it with a bunch of his buddies, most of whom had not actually read the book, as Zack had.  He had to explain a few things to them during the show.

Zack didn't care much for the movie.  He thought that the director held too close to the graphic novel, which worked really well for 300, but not so well for this one.  He felt that this choice of sticking so closely to the source actually bogged the movie down both visually and as a matter of pacing.  He enjoyed the event because the crowd in the theater with him became noisy and raucus and yelled at the screen and Zack was able to yell answers to the questions other viewers were yelling at the screen.

Does that sound like a good movie?

I'll wait and rent it when it comes out on dvd.
