Tyler was in town this weekend. He was here for the bachelor festivities of a good friend. I can't believe my kids are at that stage; when friends are getting married and buying houses and stuff. In another year or two they'll be having kids. These are the boys who used to eat my Mom out of house and home!
Strange but true;
the house I grew up in was so much fun that even my kids and their friends preferred hanging out there than here. Well, by then, Mom and Dad had a hot tub.
So Ty was in town for three days and despite all the bachelor party plans he managed to hang with us for a while, too. The first night he was here he went to MJ's and woke up the baby so he could play with her. She rewarded him by not crying and showing off how she could walk, now.
Much scrabble, golf and cribbage was played.
Ty spent Sunday dozing on the couch while pretending to watch the golf on tv.
While the men sat in the house watching Yang hunt Tiger, the girls and I sat on the deck and played scrabble. I crushed them. That doesn't happen very often anymore, as they now have extensive vocabularies. It's been very difficult to beat Katie at scrabble for a long time but I lucked out yesterday; I drew the Z and the X. I put "exit" on a double word score and I put "adze" down with the Z on a triple letter score. The next turn I was able to build "zit" off of "adze", so I got to count the Z four times which was how much I won by. Poor Katie got stuck with the Q and although she had a U, she never found a place for them and had to eat twelve points.
Hehehehehe....
Then we played Lord of the Rings monopoly.
I won there, too. It was really funny; the first four or five laps, I kept winding up in jail. I never got to buy any property and apparently Galadriel had decided on a life of crime. Gimli (Kate) and Legolas (Josie) each had five or six properties by the time I got my first deed, which was a wizard's staff. How lame!
Then, much like Yang in the
Open PGA, I landed on Free Parking three or four times, built a fortune as a slum lord (shortly after acquiring my staff I bought Maggot's farm ). The next thing I know, Josie is offering me opportunities to wheel and deal and I've got all four horses, both staffs and a monopoly with fortresses.
"Why are you doing this?" her older sister demanded "You just traded her property that's worth way more than you owe her and you know it? That's not good business sense!"
"I know I'm losing," Josie said looking her sister square in the eye. "I'm going down and I'm taking you with me."
So with the help of Josie's well placed trades I wound up with Mount Doom and Barad Dur, landed on Free Parking and built fortresses everywhere. With my huge pile of 500 dollar bills made paying Katie's silly little rents painless the few times I didn't skip through her monopolies landing only on my utilities or horses and she landed on Barad Dur or Mount Doom,owing me 2000p every time around.
I was about to put her out of business when MJ called with an emergency so I had to go. I declared myself the winner. Katie objected. I told her to add up her assets, let Josie add up mine and I left.
According to her Dad, she sat at the table furiously adding for about ten minutes then turned to him and yelled "I was still in this game and SHE LEFT."
Whatever. She did make up a good song about Fangorn Forest.
