I must admit I really didn't get my undies in a bunch over the president's co-opting of a half hour of our school kids time.  I didn't love the idea, as it would obviously take time away from actual school.

I was in favor of televising the inauguration, as that was a grand and historic occasion that taught our nation's school kids a very important lesson about the country we live in.  As Josie was at a school with an enrollment that's roughly 85% minorities, I knew and Josie fully understood how important that particular inaugural was.

I'm quite sure other presidents have beamed themselves into class rooms.  In fact, it turns out George W. did it.  And Democrats went predictably ape shit.

I think maybe the reason so many parents were concerned with Obama in the class room is because they don't trust him, or how the teaching establishment would handle the aftermath.  For instance, letting the president speak, then turning to the class, rolling your eyes and saying "Back to work!" as I imagine many teacher's who let Bush's speech into their classrooms did, is very different from turning on the lights so the kids can see you wipe the tears of admiration out of your eyes and sigh "Wasn't that GREAT?  Isn't he WONDERFUL??" as it seems the teachers of America were instructed to do.

Why should anyone worry about that?

Do you know any school kids?

First of all, if the teacher looooved the speech, you can bet the kids immediately consigned Obama to the "dork" list forever.

I knew the speech presented no real problems when I heard it would be twenty minutes long.  In kid years, that's like...forever.

So we asked Josie if she saw the president's speech in school.

"Yeah." she answered.

"How was it?" her dad asked.

"Booooriiing."

Oh.  What a shock.
