September in November

We've finally gotten a string of lovely days. It's been warm and sunny like it should've been in late September or October. The only difference is that the trees are mostly bare but I'm not complaining. We haven't had enough good weather all year to nitpick about the timing of the good stuff.
Yesterday morning Jay and I walked around the lake early. It took us fifty minutes. Today I walked with Mom, who is not as fast as she used to be, MJ who is fifteen months pregnant and a toddler who insisted on toddling on her own. She also called me by name. It sounded like "Meeez" but that's pretty good! It took us about an hour and twenty minutes to get around. But it was great, every step of the way.
We saw another bald eagle. This one didn't seem as gigantic as the one MJ and I saw last week, but he was still mighty majestic, perched high on a light post behind the bandstand. According to some of the fishermen nearby, the eagle had been there most of the afternoon.
I brought in my orders this morning. I only picked up a few new custom orders, which is bad. You never want to see the custom work dry up. On the other hand, the shop needs a whole slew of new Christmas designs in the next two weeks and now I'll have time to do them, which is good.
I did have two designs this last week which were on opposite ends of the spectrum. One was a belt. I hate designing belts. They're only 1.25 inches high. that's about fifteen stitches. It's dammed hard to make anything fit in fifteen stitches. I charge a lot for belts just because they are no dam fun to paint. This customer has done four or five belts for her husband. I guess he loves them. Jay took one look at it and said not on his dead body. Zack, on the other hand thought the idea was kind of cool and said he'd wear a needlepoint belt.
He can find someone else to design it for him.
Anyway, this latest belt was a doozy. She brought in two grocery bags full of material; her husband is a master gardener who has several collections; stamps, coins, wrought iron trivets, tootsie toy boats, matchbox cars, antique rifles and hand guns and amborina glass. I had to figure out a way to squeeze it all onto one belt. Fifteen stitches high.
Bleh.
The other order was for a Christmas stocking. A gal was doing a stocking for her daughter in law, who shares her love of all things Star Wars.
The only thing I could possible enjoy more would be designing a purse based on the X-files.
I painted a stocking with a large Christmas tree on it and among the ornaments were the death star, Darth Vader's helmet, a Storm trooper's helmet, and x-wing fighter, R2D2, C3PO, Han Solo, Luke and Leia. In front of the tree, where the presents go, I put Chewbacca, the Millennium Falcon and Yoda.
Josie paused by my board while I was working on it. She said "Best Christmas stocking ever. "
We just finished watching UP. Great movie!
Wow...a purse based on the X-files....
