Yesterday was a really good day. Having taken off Wednesday, my ax was good and sharp. I finished the second of the chair seats I had to do; they are gorgeous. I painted four 5x10 panels for the arms of the chairs and then, to crack my artistic muscles, I came up with six new, small simple yet beautiful Christmas ornaments based on the porcelain ornaments a friend lent me. I was done with all of it by 1:00. After lunch I went down and walked around the lake. It had been drizzly all morning and was still overcast, but it wasn't cold and there was only a breath of wind. The lake was glassy at the south end with just a ripple of waves on the north end. It was so beautiful! I love the lake in all different conditions and when it looks like it's all made of silver and pearls is one of my favorite looks. I wish I'd brought my camera. I wish that so often that I'm beginning to think I should just shove it in my pocket all the time.
Katie, my sister, has done so many
beautiful watercolors in the last two months, all based on photos she took around town, it has inspired me.
I have so many ideas in my head for things that I want to do, I can't sleep at night. I love it when that happens. All I need is about six months of no one bothering me or talking to me or taking time to eat, sleep, cook, shop....it's times like this when I wish I had the power to stop time, like Hiro Nakamura. I could use a nice long vacation out of time.
Jay was on the road. They went to St. Cloud and
clobbered a team. Josie and I had crispy chicken wings for dinner and watched one of our favorites: The Incredibles.
The Incredibles is one of those movies that I consider perfect. Every character, every line, every scene, is jam packed with humor, personality and action. The voice work is better than some academy award winning performances I've seen. The animation is so well thought out that it takes my breath away. Even the stuff that is deep in the background and slightly out of focus is great and laugh out loud funny. I can't think of a single way in which the movie could be improved. It's perfect.
I also whipped up another tiny needlepoint for myself. I'm doing an insert for the key rack in my kitchen, based on the colors of thread I have left over from the four "Ho! Ho! Ho!" s I've done in the last two weeks. I'm getting too fast. I've been using silk and it's incredibly wonderful. It's so soft and it pulls through so nicely that you can work much quicker than with any other fiber. Plus, I have really quick fingers. I want to do some big pieces but I haven't found the time to paint them, so little things I can whip out in minutes have to do.
This morning the sky dawned all pink and pretty. It looks like the sun is out, with a slight haze still in the sky. I have had a table top Christmas tree skirt tumbling around in my head for a week and yesterday during my walk, it coalesced, so it's time to get at it. I'm very excited about it.
I love it when a plan comes together.
