Dawn on Thursday

Last Friday I went to the All-Swacker reunion at Bunny's. Katie and I went and Jay joined us there. There was a big turn out, mostly of younger classes but I did get to talk to a knot of my classmates. It was fun. Katie got a little bit nervous when she found out a guy was there who had stalked her about ten years ago, under the mistaken idea that she was Margy.
None of Mary Jeanne's former stalkers were there.
As far as I know, no one ever stalked me.
Saturday I went to Jay's game by myself. Zack has friends in from out of town for the Holiday so he had other plans and Josie had an opportunity to make some Holiday money baby sitting for Andy.
We lost. We lost at home for the first time in years. I blame Zack for not being there. Of course, it might have been my fault, as I was out of needlepoint.
I've gotten too fast with the small stuff, so I took the weekend off to paint myself something big and it wasn't finished in time for the game.
Some advice to the players; you know all those shots you didn't make? Don't take those ones. And those shots you do make? More of those, please.
Basketball is easy.
Saturday night there was a birthday party for my gorgeous and delightful niece, Phanie. She used to be Stephanie but apparently she hates it so stop calling her that.
The party was at a sake bar not too far from here. At the party I found out that if I just spent more time on Facebook, I might not have been the last one in the family to find out that another gorgeous and delightful niece and her hubby are expecting a baby and have bought a house. Good news, everywhere!
I was ready to leave after the cup cakes but that's when Katie showed up. She had been working all day and then gone out with a group to the VFW right down the block. Katie is also gorgeous and delightful and she and Phanie put on a brief show for which I believe the waiter would've tipped them if they'd do it again. Naturally I couldn't leave until I'd talked with Katie awhile. I got home at 1:30, which is late for me.
Sunday morning I felt like I'd been run over by a truck, and I didn't even drink any sake! I would've like doing nothing all day but I had to finish the needlepoint (it turned out well, I'm very excited.) and go to a volleyball banquet.
Sports banquets.
Yuck.
There's no reason at all why they have to be so awful. Coach's really need to learn how to be concise. Expecting them to be pithy is too much, but concise is reasonable. Figure out how to describe each girl in one sentence, not five minutes; we have three teams to get through here!
Josie's coach actually did really well, and I was very hopeful when the JV Coach said "I'll keep this brief..." then he talked for forty minutes.
The whole thing was three hours long.
Three.
Hours.
If I'm gonna sit through anything for that long, I expect the Ring to be thrown into Mt.Doom at the end.
The food was good.
Tuesday, Josie and I had to go to the University for a meeting with the club she wants to play for in the off season. There was a game going on so campus parking was premium. It was either ten bucks to park next door, or take your chances on finding street parking and cross your fingers that you can remember where your car is. I paid the ten bucks.
Last night we ran out to my mom's for spaghetti dinner with Heidi and her crowd. Tucker, my lovely and delightful nephew, is in town for the weekend and it was our only chance to see him, as they spend Thanksgiving with Heidi's side of the family. It's always fun to see them. Alex wasn't there; she's on a mission trip in Guatamala.
MJ and Annie were there and Annie is beginning to talk. She's got almost everyone's names down. I've become one of her tricks. She tap dances, winks and then points at me and says "Thas MaWeez." She flirted shamelessly with Tucker all evening, for which no one could blame her. She said "Tuckooo" very clearly and when asked Heidi's name said "Tuckoo's mom." She's very good with the names but for some reason has decided Martha's name is "Pop Tart".
This morning I awoke to the delicious smell of roast turkey. We'll be going out to Steve and Pam's this afternoon where a small, cozy group of Pivec's will be quietly celebrating. We're all very subdued when Tim isn't around.
right.
Tim and Tom both have in law obligations this year but there will be around 17 or 20 of us for dinner with more showing up later for pie. Since my folks were considerate enough to buy a house a mile from Steves, it's no trouble to roll on over to there place in time to help my mom pull the second of her 25 pounders out of the oven and do it all over again. The gathering there will be about 25 people but most of them will be little kids so it will be noisier, but my folks house was designed for such gatherings; a wonderful basement, fully equipped, with a sound proof door. We don't even want to know what they're getting away with down there. Long as they clean everything up at the end, we're all good.
Tyler and Megan are in Denver with the Franks and Bill. JP and Royana are in their new place.
It's going to be The BEST THANKSGIVING EVER.
