Party Like it's 2009

Jay and I stopped going out for New Year's Eve when we got married.  Neither of us ever liked the pressure of amateur's night and since we knew we would be going home with each other, what was the point?  I remember us watching Donny Osmond ring in the New Year back in the early eighties, Dick Clark after that and eventually we didn't even try to stay up for who ever was hosting the festivities in New York.  Our New Year's m.o. has been; get rid of the kids, cook a steak, crack open a bottle of something good and eat some fine chocolate before collapsing into bed at a reasonable hour.  It has worked well for us for almost three decades.

Yesterday we were invited out to two events that would've been great fun.  One was a small dinner party hosted by one of our best friends who has moved out of the twin cities so we don't get to see him as often as we like and the other was a small gathering of old coaching buddies, some of whom live out of state now and we rarely get to see.

It went against every New Year's instinct that we have honed over the decades to leave the house and we would've begged off both but one of the parties was within walking distance, so we did make an appearance there.  It was fun to see everyone and we met one gal for the first time, who it turns out was living in Montana at the same time (late eighties) that we were!  We knew some of the same people, which may seem odd but there are only 17 people who live in Montana, so it's not.

We were home early, cooked up two enormous porter house steaks, broke into the bottle of 18 year old scotch that Tom E. gave us and watched some idiots in Times Square.  Kathy Griffin was pretty funny.  I don't find Anderson Cooper attractive at all.  For me, if a guy must have hair (my love of the baldies is well documented) I prefer it dark.  And don't get me started on theimportance of eyebrows.  Man, this is fun!  I could spend the rest of the day surfing for pictures of hot guys, but I think I'm done now.  Anyway, you can see that in my book, Anderson Cooper is a washed out nothing to look at entity.  Stick a photo of him next to the dictionary entry for BORING.

I have a big box of Godiva chocolates--all dark-- but sadly, didn't have any before bed last night.  I've reached the age where chocolate after 8:30 keeps me awake all night.

I did have three pieces for breakfast, though.

2010 is off to a great start.
