Eight Days Later...

Zack was sick all week, which wasn't any fun. I wouldn't call him a hypochondriac, he never imagines that he's sick when he isn't. He's hardly ever sick. Unfortunately, when he does succumb to a cold or the flu, he tends to panic and believes he's dying. He fought a fever for a week, got better and after two good days, began throwing up. It wasn't a fun time for anyone. I took him to the doctor for the reassurance that he was just fighting something viral, not something terminal and the relief worked wonders on his constitution. He felt much better immediately.
His doctor is a miracle worker!
What bothered me the most about having him sick for a week was it meant that he hung around the house all day for a week. You have to understand; I work at home. I'm used to having the house to myself for most of the day. That means that the house is quiet, I don't' have to talk to anyone and I can use the computer any time I want.
We're down to only one laptop these days and it's bloody inconvenient, let me tell you. Sure, we've got a desk top but it's down in Zack's room and he doesn't like to use it because it's slow. I don't like to use it because it's in the sick room. Sometimes Zack takes the laptop down there and uses both computers in tandem to create whatever it is he makes.
Also, Jay has been hanging around the house more than usual this year. In his determination to stay out of the fighting that's been going on at MCTC over the President's spiteful decision to drop basketball, he's just avoiding the place as much as possible which means he's here all the time, too.
I love my family and of all the people on earth, Jay and Zack are two of my very favorites but I'm just used to being alone for several hours a day and I like it that way.
It would probably help if I lived in a house with doors, but I don't. When raising teen agers, there's an obvious advantage to living in a house with no privacy whatsoever and there's no downside when you're home alone all day but for a hermit like me to share the space with two noisy, talkative men all day everyday is just about more than I can stand even when they are down stairs and I'm upstairs.
I know this makes me come off as crazy as a loon but I accepted that about myself years ago.
I think I'm crabby today because my sleep was interrupted so many times last night. First, I stayed up too late because my book finally got interesting. Then the cat woke me up at 6 a.m. because she was hungry. I tossed her outside. What makes her think I work on her schedule? Oh relax; she was wearing a fur coat. Then, no sooner did I fall back asleep than Josie woke me up for a ride to school. I wanted to toss her out in the backyard, too but she's much stronger than I am. Plus, she knows where we hide the outside key. Also, I'm not counting on the cat to take care of me in my old age, so I gave Josie a ride to school.
Later, when I have more time and if no one else using the laptop, I'll write about the Marauders last home game. We won big but the Grinch's heart is still two sizes too small.
