No Joke

After the game last night, Zack told me that today's game was going to be a tough one. Central Lakes was good and had played very well on Friday. Zack was right, they gave us a fight.
I didn't think it was going to be that hard. In the first half of the game we handled them like a dime store harmonica. Mike Welch burst into flames like he did once earlier in the season and had 18 points by the end of the first half, which ended with us up by 12. In the second half we lead by as much as 17. Zack and Tom were teasing me for being nervous.
"Are you kidding?" I asked them. "We're only up by 15! That's almost like losing!"
People always think I'm joking when I say things like that.
A few minutes later Central Lakes had cut our lead to five. Three. One.
Overtime.
I've seen waaaaaaaaaay too much basketball to be surprised by that. Horrified and dismayed, yes. Surprised, no.
"I can't believe you can still do that." Pam said, indicating the needlepoint I was frantically stabbing at.
"If I didn't have this to divide my attention," I told her "I'd probably be puking right now."
Mike Welch added seven more points to his total before the game was over but it was our point guard, Freddie Burton who was lifted over his team mates head when we won the five minute over time. How could they not? Freddy had 11 points in over time and hit six free throws in the last seventy seconds to put us out of reach.
I need a nap.
