Running on Empty

I haven't written anything in days because I've been too busy trying to get all the new designs for the spring show done.  This is always tough but it's worse this year because I can't afford to push back special orders until I'm finished with new stuff.  The shop is coasting on fumes and it's the orders that will pay the rent next month.  I've been doing this for decades and I've always said that high end needlepoint is recession proof.

Not this time.

This recession has hit the well to do like nothing before.

As I've told all my artist friends repeatedly (and some of them even agree with me) we depend on there being folks with enough disposable income to be able to afford something as frivolous as art!  We can't afford to support anything but fiscally conservative politics!!!

When there aren't any more rich people, there will be no more art.  When the government pays artists, they cease to create art and become only propagandists.

Oh, I've also had my undies in a bunch over the shenanigans of our lovely federal government.

I think there's a tsunami of economic woe racing toward our shore that could make the Great Depression look like a weekend in Vegas, but hopefully that's just my pessimism coming into play.

I've looked and looked and while I can see a way clear of the skyrocketing taxes and economy crushing regulations on the horizon, I don't know if the country is nimble enough to jump clear.

Anyway, it's all a huge bore so I haven't written.

Meanwhile, wedding plans are blossoming and that's fun and National Hall of Fame Induction is looming and that's fun and Law School Graduation is right around the corner and that's fun!

I really have to start concentrating on all the good--great--stuff in my life and quit feeling like the weight of the world is mine.  Who the heck do I think I am, anyway???

Josie just got straight As again!
