San Antonio

Monday, Tyler took off of work and took Josie into Austin to look at schools. They toured St. Edward, Tyler's alma mater and the University of Texas. Hook 'em horns!
A good friend of ours is in the Longhorn Hall of Fame, where she absolutely belongs. She's also in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. Josie's not sure she wants to go to such a large school.
Meanwhile, back in Minnesota, the high school where she's currently a straight A student was just named the number 1 high school in the state! She's taking gym online this summer and she logged on and did some assignments every day. She's a very dedicated student.
While they did that, I stayed behind and painted a 4X4 foot painting of the Minnehaha falls for Tyler's Christmas present. I was worried that I'd lose the light before I finished but I managed to squeeze it out.
Tuesday, Megan, Josie and I drove into San Antonio early. Megan is taking a class there for her Master's Degree, so she had to work all day but Josie and I were free to wander the River Walk and have fun all day so that's what we did.
The River Walk is beautiful and kind of reminded me of our own Minnehaha parkway, not that they look anything alike, but both are built on the water and down below the city, where you could walk or drive right over them and not even know they're there.
We spent the morning walking. We went for miles and it was all so cool! It was too early for most of the shops to be open but it was the cool part of the day. Even so, after two hours, we were melting we were sweating so much. To get off our feet for a while, we bought barge tickets and toured the river that way.
By the time our boat ride was over it was very hot so we went into the River side mall to get out of the heat and find some lunch. Neither of us were really hungry; more thirsty. So Josie had an oreo blizzard and I had an orange julius with a banana. Then we bought a deck of cards and went back out to the river, where we found a shady table near a group of musicians and we played gin and listened to music. When the heat got to us again, we went back inside and saw a movie.
We saw "Killers" starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigle. Why does anyone hire her? She has no discernable acting ability. I've seen her in three things now and she is exactly the same in everything and there's just nothing special about her at all. Ashton Kutcher has proven to me that he can be comic gold (have you seen That 70s Show?) but he didn't seem to know he was in a comedy. Tom Selleck and Catherine O'hara were great. The movie is entertaining and cute but it could have been much, much funnier.
We did see previews for two movies I'd like to see; The Expendables, because it stars Jason Statham and a bunch of old guys and lots of stuff gets blown up so what's not to love, and You Again, starring Kristen Bell and Jamie Lee Curtis looks really funny.
After the movie we were freezing, so it was back out to the hot, hot sun and more cards. Josie whupped me bloody. She's won everything we've played for days now. Ty and I keep trying to beat her at Scrabble and Cribbage and we've had no luck at all since Saturday.
Oh well.
We never did get any horse back riding in, which is something I really wanted to do. The problem was that by the time we did all the things we needed to do; paint rooms, print invitations, stuff envelopes, paint pictures, go shopping, we were too tired to even think of getting up on a horse. I guess it's best to save something for next time.
We had to get up at 4 am this morning to get to the airport for our 6 am flight. I've been up for fifteen hours and I'm bushed.
But the sun is out over the park and I've got a big glass of cabernet and my honey is grilling me some dinner.
Life is good.
