Back in the Groove, sort of

We got home from Texas Wednesday morning and I'm trying to get back into my groove but it's harder than it usually is.
Too many parties.
Thursday, I had a bridal shower to attend for Jay's niece, Mary. Mary is the daughter of Jay's cousin Bruce and I always love a chance to hang out with that branch of the family because they are all incredibly charming and fun. Mary and her fiance just graduated from college and will be married on campus next weekend and then move directly to Colorado, where he will be going on in school.
The shower was as much fun as I had hoped it would be.
Friday was Jay's birthday. The kids were all home, Katie even brought over her badminton set and we entertained the birthday boy by flailing around the backyard trying to play badminton in a high wind. It was even funnier than it was fun and it was a lot of fun.
Jay grilled up some tenderloin and we had strawberry shortcake (made on his favorite; angel food cake) for dessert.
Saturday, my cousins Mike and Lester arrived in town for their first visit in about three years, so we all congregated at Mom and Dad's
for dinner. The food was great, as usual and the conversation, too. Lots of new things have happened since we all got together; my sister got a new and interesting job, my brother had a few new tales to tell about his latest stint over there and I got second hand reports on the trials and tribulations of my West Coast brother's theater company.
I really should call JP and get it straight from the horses mouth. It sounds like the sort of stuff that's just hellish to live through but makes the greatest stories later on. My brother Andy once dropped an outhouse on his own head and he's been living off of that tale for nearly twenty years now. Hey, either you drown in poop or you have a great story, that's life, right?
I went over to MJ's early yesterday so she could run over to a house in the neighborhood and pick up a tyco slide for her girls that was being given away free on Craig's list. I got to see Banana's face when her mom unloaded the slide out of the back of the van. Priceless!
I really have to be organized this week and get as much work done as I can before rushing off to play board games with Mike and Lester (they are killer player!) because I've got so much going on this summer but I can't afford to slack off.
I hate being organized; it's anathema to art.
Yeah, I'll keep telling myself that.
You can really get away with a lot of crap when you have a visible talent. "ooh, I can't wear shoes, they stifle my creativity!" "Oh, I don't need to know how to spell, I'm a poet!" "What do I care if my teeth fit in your bourgeoise mouth?"
It's all crap, of course. There's absolutely no reason why artists shouldn't know how to spell, be on time or brush their teeth every day. Pretentious ass holes.
I really can't work with shoes on my feet, but that's why I work at home.
Plus, I'm a pretentious ass hole.
Last night, my sister, who is an incredibly talented artist, writer and actress, announced that Einstein was full of crap and then she made a very compelling argument for her opinion.
It was a fun night!
