Spoon, Loon, Moon

I woke up Sunday, relieved to be alive and not floating down the highway in our car.
I grabbed Mom and Katie and we headed for Souix Falls.
We hit a little bit of rain but nothing like the night before. Eventually it cleared up and the driving was easy. We had taken on a lot of water during the storm and the air conditioner gurgled when we turned it up. Then, when I cloverleafed off of 35 onto 90, the air conditioner leaked extremely cold water on my driving foot. I almost screamed but I didn't want Katie or Mom to think I was crashing, so I just grit my teeth and kept driving.
When we got to SF, I took a wrong turn, since Mapquest wasn't as clear as it should be. It never is. We (Mom) quickly figured out that we (I) were going the wrong way so we ( I) turned around and I (we) found the right neighborhood. It was beautiful! Then (I) we drove right past the house because we ( I) was so busy gawking at the big gorgeous houses. Katie pointed out that we'd (I'd) gone way too far so we (I) turned around. We pulled up to the house with all the cars parked in the drive. I ran up to the house to make sure it was the right place and it was. Megan introduced me to her aunt Ann, who was very nice.
The first thing she said to me was "You're Tyler's mom! You look...young."
I liked her right away.
In addition to Megan and her Mom, there were three aunts, a cousin , two Grandma's and a few friends. They were all extremely nice and very charming and they laughed at my jokes, not politely but like I actually made sense. They seemed to like us.
When I told Jay all this later, he gave me a funny look and said "You're surprised by that, aren't you?"
The party was in a very beautiful old house. High ceilings, hard wood floors, lots of carved wood work, french doors and arched windows. IT was decorated perfectly; very traditional and homey. There was a lot of needlepoint, too. Mom and I both noticed that right away.
First, we had a lovely sit down lunch of chicken salad on croissants, with a fruit and berry bowl on the side. After dessert, we adjourned to the living room, talked about needlepoint and watched Megan open her presents. She got some pretty nice stuff!
Finally, it was time to hit the road. The sky had cleared up by the time we had reached Souix Falls and although it was hot out, the humidity of the day before was gone. The drive home was easy and the time went by fast. Katie gave Jay a call when we hit Albert Lea and he had a steak roughly the size and shape of a brick coming off the grill when we got home.
All in all, a fun weekend but I'm glad I don't have to do any more driving for a while.
