A Trip to the Falls

BJ and his girlfriend, Maura arrived in town late Monday night. We're all excited because BJ hasn't come to visit in two years. That's what happens when they grow up; you can't force them to come on vacation with you and they do things like get jobs so they can't come even when they want to.
BJ looks great and Maura is delightful.
He wanted to show her the Minnehaha falls, because it's really cool. It is really cool. The falls are by no means the largest or most powerful, even in the state of Minnesota but they are beautiful and the park land surrounding them is spectacular and the walk from the bottom of the falls to the Mississippi river is lovely. Maura had never seen the Mississippi, either so the whole day was memorable.
And hot.
And muggy.
My sunscreen literally melted right off of my face. I was sweaty every where, but my face in particular was so sweaty that Albert Brooks' character from Broadcast News would've been grossed out.
MJ brought the babies to the park but since the lower paths aren't built for strollers, they didn't come down. Bananas loved it. She stared at the falls, which are running really strong right now, thanks to the many torrential storms we had in late June, her eyes bigger than usual and said "What's that?!"
Having been told it was a waterfall, I asked her if it was the coolest thing she'd ever seen and she said "YES.''
The flock of kids we had with us ran on down through the woods and Margy and I followed them. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon. It always is. I don't know why we always seem to pick the hottest afternoon of the summer to go to the river, but it wasn't the first time we've all been melting down there.
After we'd hung out by the river, watching bald eagles fish for an hour or so, we headed back up top. Margy took all the kids who wanted to swim over to Calhoun where they jumped in before heading back to Grandma's and I took a handful back to my house. Zack had to get ready for work and Meg needed to soak a foot she injured. Josie chose a shower over a jump in the lake.
I showered, too and I don't know if it was the shower or if the humidity really broke but the rest of the day didn't seem nearly as hot and sticky as the afternoon had.
The Hubbell Open finished up with Woody winning his second in a row. Everyone said they played well and the field at large did seem pretty satisfied with itself. No one accused Woody of cheating. No one ever accuses Woody. They'll all accuse practically everyone else of everything under the sun, including accusing Dad of constantly raising the Senior's Division Age limit just so he doesn't have to compete with Ron, but no one ever said Woody had to cheat to beat this crowd at golf.
The after party was a huge success. The food was great; brats. Ever had a bad one? I'm not sure it exists.
Total exhaustion over took me around 9:00. Katie (who didn't come to the party but went to dinner with Adam, who then headed back to Montana) and Josie went to a late showing of Toy story 3.
I went to bed and slept like a rock.
Today is bright, shiny and a lot less sticky.
It's gonna be a good one.
