July 7

Wednesday brought Jeff to town in the afternoon, bringing the Franks up to 100% attendance. Not only that, but Tyler flew in in the evening and although Katie is the only one who actually laid eyes on him yesterday, that counts.
It was also Bananas birthday, which we'll celebrate on Sunday with the other July birthdays in the family. Poor Vince had his ninth on monday, after spending the weekend at a friend's cabin. When he was dropped off at home late the night of his birthday, only Alex was home. No one else, no cake, no presents, no decorations. Everyone else was at Grandmas partying it up. He'll get his cake 'n stuff on Sunday with the rest of them. There's a birthday every other day in July; we'd get seriously sick of cake and singing if we tried to do them one at a time.
There are just as many July birthdays on the Pivec side, so it really is a recipe for cake overload.
It's not like we didn't do anything. We all (three car loads) went out to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in the morning. It's a favorite haunt of almost everyone's. Zack requested we go on Wednesday, as he loves the place and didn't have to work. So we went out in the morning.
It was beautiful and hot. The kids took off for the bog and the ladies and little kids stayed up in the gardens. We meandered about the rose garden, the japanese garden, the hosta garden etc. for so long that before we knew it, the kids were back, found us and demanded lunch. At this point, MJ took her babies home for a nap and the rest of us retired to the restaurant for sandwiches and salad.
My salad was dry and although I looked, I couldn't find the dressing. Maura told me later that it had been in big baskets near the check out. Oh well.
It seemed like it was getting hotter and muggier by the minute so although I would've like to stay and do the bog walk, everyone else (all the kids) was ready to go. Margy did make sure that Molly got to do the maze, as Molly was really excited to do so. All the big boys in her car pretended that they didn't want to run through it but when they realized that Molly was going and they'd have to wait for her, they all went.
Josie finished the day by dropping her cell phone in the toilet, so she's without a cell for the time being. What is it with liquids and her phones???? She didn't "drop" her cell; it leaped out of her back pocket into the toilet. Like a magnet.
We came home in the afternoon and I worked. Somewhere along mid afternoon, it got cloudy and the skies opened up. It poured rain for hours.
This was only bad because Alex's graduation party was at the pool and yacht club that evening. We hoped the rain would be done by then. It was, but it was pretty wet out.
Still, the P&Y was a blast. Most of the kids went swimming later on, as the sky cleared in time for a glorious sunset over the Mississippi. We all got to meet Alex's boyfriend (very cute!) and a lot of her friends. The kids were all very well behaved and I think Bananas thought the cake was for her. Well, her piece was.
There were tacos and fajitas and cupcakes and a huge cake with Alex's face on it, which Hootie carved out and ate long before anyone had a piece.
Everyone had a really good time and Zack went home with Margy to sleep at Grandma's house. Zack and BJ hadn't actually seen each other in two years and they were always each other's favorite growing up, even though they never lived in the same state. They are having too much fun together to split up, and BJ's girl, Maura, is a doll.
Josie and I were home around 10:30. She wanted to go to open gym this morning at 8:30, so I tried to make her go to bed but it's not so easy when they're fifteen and three inches taller than you. I couldn't just carry her up and lock her in her room. She did head out on time this morning, so it's all good.
Tyler called from Katie's place around 11:30 to tell me not to wait up for him. I really hadn't planned on doing that but I APPRECIATE the call.
This morning has dawned bright, clear and lovely. I've turned off the air conditioning at least for a little while.
I think I'd better run to Sam's club after breakfast.
I've got some photos to make.
