Two Weeks Out

Tyler and Megan are getting married two weeks from today and I'm getting really excited.

Yesterday was an extremely productive day for me; first I ran Josie up to the sporting goods store that sent me a coupon for 10% off volleyball shoes and we got her a new pair for the coming season.  Even without the coupon, vb shoes are a lot less expensive than basketball shoes.  We also need to get Josie some ankle braces so she can protect her ankles, both of which she has rolled while playing.  Jay is going to go with her to get those as he has a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn't. Prices range from $10 to $40 per foot.  Yikes.

After that, I went to MJ's house where she cut my hair.  Katie (sister, not daughter) came over for a cut, too so that was fun.  After we'd had our hair done, Katie and I went dress shopping.  Katie won't be able to come to the wedding but she wants to be involved anyway so she helped me find a dress.

We went to three places and actually found several dresses that we both liked.  She wasn't going to buy anything but we had a ton of fun picking out things for each other to try on anyway.   I found a wonderful dress at TJ Maxx; great cut, great fabric, only one problem; the color.  It's a deep chocolate brown, which is the color the bridesmaids are wearing, so no way could I wear it to the wedding. Also, brown just isn't my color.  Katie said it looked great on me anyway, but it would be my only brown item of clothing.  The cut was awesome, though.  I wish the dress came in a different color.  I bought it anyway.

Then we went to the Dress Barn where Katie tried on a super cool halter top dress with a wide belt and skirt, in silvery gray with black polka dots. She looked awesome in it; totally Betty Draper!  I tried on about four dresses and liked them all.  Three of them were off the sale rack and the only problem was they were all a size too small; I'm right on the border between 10 and 12; some 12's I swim in and some 10's I can't zip up.  These all fell into the 'can't zip up' category.  (the dress I got at TJM was a 10.  It makes no sense.)  Naturally, these dresses were no longer available in 12.  Actually, one 10 did fit and it looked great; a filmy, flowy, periwinkle blue number with a soft ruffle down the v-neck.  I used to say I hated ruffles but this year, designers seem to have gotten ruffles right.  I now own several tops with ruffles and have been tempted by many dresses likewise adorned.  The last dress I tried on at the dress barn was not off the sale rack; a dark sapphire blue number.  I kind of hoped it wouldn't look as good as the periwinkle, as it cost three times as much.

Nope, I put it on and it's like lights went on and a siren sounded.  Second time this year, I've tried on a dress and practically screamed  THE PERFECT DRESS.

Shopping for clothes is fun when that happens.

We did go to Marshalls and try on more dresses.  We found a cerulean blue silk, strapless mini skirt with a huge rosette at the waist that we couldn't figure out how it stayed up.  Naturally, we grabbed one in each our sizes and tried them on.  Interestingly, it seems the fabric had enough spandex in it to just sort of...grab you.  We looked like Vegas cocktail waitresses.  There was no one else in the fitting room to see the two of us prancing about, laughing our butts off.

Katie also had on a pair of super cool pale gold four inch spike heeled platform pumps.  They were awesome and on clearance but we couldn't think of a single reason why she should have them.  She already has a closet full of cool shoes she never wears.

I found a blue and black print mini dress ($16.00) that I almost bought.  Then I remembered that I really didn't need it; I have a cute white skirt and a closet full of new pretty tops that I can wear to the rehearsal dinner.

Still, it was a great day of shopping and I HATE shopping.

Later, I modeled the two dresses for Jay and Josie.  They both agreed that the brown dress was wonderful but while Josie said I could pull off the color (Josie has the best eye for color of anyone I know), Jay said it did nothing for me.  Quite frankly, if Jay doesn't think it does anything for me, I don't care how good it looks on me.  The brown goes back.

I put on the blue and they both reacted pretty much the same way I did.  Jay's face lit up and he said "Now, THAT'S your color!"

I'm thinking; silver shoes.

Then I had to run up to the shop to drop off a big piece and they had some more orders for me.

Later, Jay went out to dinner with a group of guys from out of town, Josie went to baby sit for MJ and Zack went out with friends.  I went up to my office and painted till 10: 00 o'clock.  I finished a large footstool cover with birds in the center and a 6" border of lattice work.  It's pretty.

It was a gorgeous day; low 80s, low humidity and not a cloud in the sky but  I didn't even get a walk in, I was so busy.

As if that weren't good enough, a thunderstorm rolled in around midnight and it rained for hours.

It was the perfect summer day, and I can't believe I spent it shopping.  Oh, well.  I did need a dress.
