Relaxing Our Brains Out
This entry was posted on 8/1/2010 6:57 AM and is filed under Vacation.
Thursday was sunny, warm and very calm. Jay went fishing and I sat on the deck and painted. I could smell the pines and hear loons calling. Relaxing? you have no idea.
Dennis, the local fella who looks after the place, came over with the repaired tarp for the boat lift. He's an interesting guy; he trapped most of the pelts on the walls. He also built the porch; my favorite room. He used to be a fishing guide but doesn't do that so much anymore. He loves to hunt as well and he was very excited about Pheasant hunting in SoDak when Jay told him about Tyler's first trip out last October.
Jay went fishing, swimming and boating. I lazed around a lot. We took the boat out at sunset again and Jay cooked us up a pork tenderloin for dinner.
The corn on the cob we got in Remer was perfect. Absolutely perfect.
Friday, Jay went out fishing early. Then we ate a big breakfast and put everything in the cabin back where we found it. We closed and locked all the windows, turned the hot water heater back down, etc. We hit the road around noon but were in no hurry to get home.
In some small town, I have no idea which, we stopped and browsed an antique store--no an Antique Emporium! It had three levels and every inch of the place was packed with cool stuff. Jay went through crates of album covers looking for the Beatles Butcher Cover.
"If they had that, it would be up front." I said.
"Not if they don't know what they have." he answered.
Turns out the very same week, a friend of ours found two books on cars at an antique store that her husband, a collector, had been looking for for years. She paid $15.00 for the pair and he told her he could sell one of them for $500 and the other for $300. Sometimes the shops just don't know what they have.
We also stopped at the Milaca Unclaimed Freight Warehouse. Imagine a garage sale that fills an airplane hanger but everything in it is new.
We got a few things and spent about $20.
We got home around 4:30 and the guys were still working in the garage, so Jay went up the drive to see how they were doing and I began unloading the car. I had my head stuck in the back seat when I heard a voice yell
"Hubbell, what are you doing?"
I turned around and there was George L., a kid (he's 52) I've known since I was five. He grew up right through the woods from us and was JP's best friend for years. He looks exactly the same. He's retired Navy and slinging concrete.
Jay sat in the garage and shot the breeze with the guys till 10:00.
I emptied the car, went to the grocery store, did two loads of laundry and cleared 240 emails off our server (Most were fan mail. Jay and I both get lots of fan mail. Fan mail rocks.) made dinner for Zack and Josie and then watched a few episodes of Glee with her. Meg gave the first dvd to her for her birthday. Thanks, Meg!
It was a great week, a great vacation and just what we needed before drawing a deep breath and plunging into wedding week.
